Summary
This report examines emergency shelter and insulation systems currently in use in Afghanistan. Its primary purpose is to provide base data for further research into insulated liners for supplied shelter systems. This will be necessary to improve year round environmental performance, in order to: improve the thermal environment for inhabitants and hence safeguard health mitigate against adverse environmental impacts of temporary settlements reduce the logistics overhead of fuel supply by lowering fuel consumption The report documents a field survey undertaken in March, 2002, in six IDP camps in and around the city of Herat, Western Afghanistan, as well as some smaller settlements near Kabul.
