Summary
town, main town of Thenmarachchi District. The school was built in 1917 by a private person, Mr. Ramalingam. The whole area has suffered the heavy combats while it was occupied by armed forces from May 2000 until the beginning of 2002. Before the war, the school hosted more than 520 students. Since May 2002 it has restarted functioning in temporary sheds with an average of 360 students. SDC was requested by the School Works Branch of Jaffna and the Principal of the school to provide the funds for the reconstruction of a two storey multipurpose building.The project supports the Government’s efforts in answering to an expected growing demand for appropriate educational facilities in the recently opened returnee area of Chavakachcheri. Through the reconstruction of the Madduvil Kamalasany Vidyalayam School an approximate number of 278 students do actually benefit.
